(The fourth book in the John Corey series)

Welcome to the Custer Hill Club--a men's club set in a luxurious Adirondack hunting lodge whose members include some of America's most powerful business leaders, military men, and government officials. Ostensibly, the club is a place to relax with old friends. But one fall weekend, the club's executive board gathers to talk about the tragedy of 9/11--and finalize a retaliation plan, known only by its codename: Wildfire. That same weekend, a member of the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force is found dead. Soon it's up to Detective John Corey and his wife, FBI Agent Kate Mayfield to unravel a terrifying plot that starts with the Custer Hill Club and ends with American cities locked in the crosshairs of a nuclear device. Corey and Mayfield are the only ones who can stop the button from being pushed, and global chaos from being unleashed….

James Rollins - "Ice Hunt" (2003)

"Buried deep in the earth's polar ice cap - carved into a moving island of ice twice the size of the United States - is a secret place, the site of a remarkable abandoned experiment that could have frightening ramifications for the planet. The brain trust of the former Soviet Union who created the seventy-year-old Ice Station Grendel would like it simply to melt from human memory. But that becomes impossible when an American undersea research vessel, the Polar Sentinel, inadvertently pulls too close to the hollowed-out iceberg... and one of the crew sees something alive inside. Something that never should have survived." "It is a discovery that sends shock waves through the intelligence communities of two powerful nations, as American and Russian scientists, soldiers, and unsuspecting civilians are pulled into Grendel's lethal vortex of secrets, violence, and betrayal. To preserve the silence - to prevent others from uncovering the terrible mysteries locked behind submerged walls of ice and steel - no measures will be too extreme. For within the station, experiments have blurred the line between life and death. It was a place never meant to be found." One man already knows too much: Matthew Pike, a former American Special Forces operative, living in seclusion in Alaska on the edge of the Arctic Circle. On the run after rescuing the survivor of a plane crash no one was meant to observe, Pike is relentlessly drawn into the eye of the gathering storm - even as a Russian nuclear attack submarine draws silently nearer to the men and women on the Polar Sentinel. The covert battle over Grendel is spinning out of control, and the future of all human life on Earth will be altered - or destroyed - once its nightmarish truths are revealed.

Iris Johansen - "Stalemate" (2006)

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Killer Dreams comes a terrifying new thriller that will leave you guessing - and gasping - till the final nerve-racking page. The suspense begins with a phone call and leads forensic sculptor Eve Duncan to the trail of a killer even killers fear to face.

Eve Duncan has turned down the job twice already. Her skill and devotion in identifying murder victims and helping bring their killers to justice may be world-renowned. But Eve works exclusively for law enforcement and the families of the innocent, and the man on the other end of the phone is many things - none of them law-abiding or innocent.

One of the world's most wanted men, little is really known about Luis Montalvo except that he is extraordinarily dangerous and that he never takes no for an answer. Now he wants Eve's help in the worst way. For he believes they have something in common - and he's about to prove it with a grisly warning.

Eve will leave everything and everyone behind, even the man she trusts and loves the most, to travel to the Colombian jungle to identify the skull he has recovered. She has agreed to this devil's bargain to save an innocent family, but also for a reason she can't admit to anyone. For the man in the jungle has promised to be able to give Eve what she wants most of all - the key to unlocking the darkest and most painful mystery of her past.

But as she gets closer to identifying the skull, she finds herself caught between two ruthless killers with no way out. Now, with everything on the line, Eve Duncan must make the most chilling choice of all. And if she's wrong…she's dead.

And Darcy still has a charmed life. On the eve of her thirtieth birthday, Rachel is shocked to find herself questioning the status quo. How come Darcy gets a glamorous job at a PR firm and the perfect boyfriend, while Rachel grinds away at her despised job as an attorney and remains painfully single. Is it just luck? Mario Acevedo - "The Nymphos of Rocky Flats" (2006)

Acevedo's first novel opens in Iraq, where Felix Gomez is a sergeant in the U.S. Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In the midst of a shoot-out, Felix is horrified to discover his team has accidentally shot and mortally wounded a young Iraqi girl. Guilt ridden, Felix stumbles off on his own and runs into a man who finds a way to extend his suffering by turning him into a vampire. Now working as a private investigator, Felix is called to a Department of Energy site by his old college roommate, Gilbert, to look into a sudden outbreak of nymphomania among female workers. Adding to Felix's troubles is the appearance of a deadly group of vampire hunters who have started slaughtering locals and now seem to have set their sights on Felix. Although not as laugh-out-loud funny as Andrew Fox's The Fat White Vampire Blues (2003), Acevedo's vampire comedy provides plenty of chuckles, particularly in its exciting final wrap-up, which leaves an opening for further Felix adventures.
